FROM THE ROUND HOUSE ON THE TRACK OF THE ACTING DISTRICT GOVERNOR

This has been a very interesting time for me as I’ve learned a lot more about Lionism from the rest of you than I’ve given you!

I encourage all of you to pay visits to your area Clubs and see what they’re doing! Amazing amount of effort from all of you!

I enjoyed the many visits and love the stories of Lionism 101. Right now I’ve asked all of my PDG’s that have been working with me to pay additional visits to our District Clubs to promote our new agenda for next year. You will be seeing new things starting to happen over the next term. However none of these things can happen without you.

MAKING TWO VISITS IN ONE DAY

April 17th, we pulled into Sedan for the noon meeting.  They were gracious enough to allow PDG Don Matlock and me to sneak in a meal and a visit. They discussed the up-coming Step Back in History with “Chautauqua” which will be held at Sedan on June 16-20, 2006 at the County Courthouse.

Then we made the short dash to Caney to pay a visit on Vice District Governor Nancy Moore. Their newest Fund Raiser is the May Pole Festival they are holding Saturday May 27th at the Local Park. There will be many activities and a Local Band is hired to perform.

MAKING COFFEYVILLE A BETTER PLACE

I visited Coffeyville the evening of April 18th, they were a lively bunch of folks with PDG Mike Banta at the helm. Really had a nice dinner and met a lot of wonderful people. They discussed taking over the sight of the old Memorial Auditorium to rework and turn it in to a Lions City Park. Their intent is to build a Gazebo there in honor of one of their past Lions. I also got to help them with their Product Liability Insurance from Lions International to the “City of Coffeyville”

KINCAID LIONS CELEBRATE 50 YEARS!

The evening of April 20th, 2006, 100 Lions and guests came together to celebrate the Kincaid Lions Club’s 50th Anniversary. It was a wonderful time sharing Lionism with all of the District and Past International President Dr. Bill Wunder and his lovely wife. Good Job Kincaid for a wonderful exhibit of a Class Anniversary Celebration by a Lions Club.

LIONS SIGHT BUS at CHANUTE

On April 22nd the Chanute Lions Club hosted the Kansas Lions Sight Bus at Chanute’s Spring Expo.  The club saw 40 people, identified two candidates that needed eye care and arranged glasses. Also the Club helped the same day at Iola Health Fair and the Chanute Health Fair for the Bone Marrow Drive for Brett Eilts.

THE EASTER BUNNY ARRIVED

Easter Sunday the Club also hosted their 64th Annual Easter Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny showing up to hand out eggs to all of the little children, the Club gave out  $64.00 dollars in money for prizes to the winners.

ARK-CITY EVENING

Let me tell you about the last month’s travel! Traveling through the District we are definitely Live and Well… On April 24th, I went back to the Ark-City Evening Club to visit my old friends who requested I Induct some new members who we approached to join when I  spoke to them last month! GUESS WHAT they brought in four new members! They also announced a fifth was going to join? So, Go ARK-CITY EVENING!

ALSO APRIL 24th, 2006

BAXTER SPRINGS HOST ZONE SOCIAL

(Region 3, Zones 1, 2, and 3.)

The same night Baxter Springs Hosted a Zone Social that had approximately sixty seven in attendance.  I sent many of the PDG’s and Zone Chairmen down to fill in for me. I hated to miss it but I felt signing new Lions up was a common goal we all shared. Lions Clubs that were in attendance were Baxter Springs, Columbus, Caney, Girard, Independence, Lyndon, McCune, Parsons, and Pittsburg.

State CC Rudy was there for the meeting and talked about the membership dues that International is going to try and put in order by Jan. 2007. It will be voted on at the International Convention by the Lion Members who are there.

Entertainment was by Sandy and Jack Hemphill from Commerce, OK. The Program was Peggy Sampson from the Development Director, Audio-reader Network, Lawrence, KS. It was a great Program and she told them if any Club wanted to have her come to their club that she would be more than happy to do so. I know that all of you Lions would enjoy it.

True to her word, Peggy is scheduled to visit both the Parsons and Pittsburg clubs on Tuesday, June 13th.   Contact Peggy at  Audio-Reader at 1-800-772.8898.

"LION OF THE YEAR"

The best part of attending the Pittsburg Lions Membership Social, was knowing that Lion President and District News Editor was about to get “The Lion of the Year” Award! Anyone who knows Lion Debbie Greve can understand why she deserved the Award...

This was a Membership Social, and by the way I highly recommend every Club should host one! I had a great time speaking to the many school teachers and administrators who were present in the Pittsburg Club.  I walked into the room LATE! I had the wrong time! In the Club are five PDG’s and the room full of teachers (Keep in mind I was a Lousy Student) But I survived. Debbie was a fellow classmate of mine and also a previous Chanute Lion who we hated to lose out of our Club!

Now I will tell you why she deserved the Award.  We handed out the membership applications after my speech Debbie closed and from that Pittsburg has gained 6 new members!  Each month Debbie does extensive work in pulling together and distributing the District newsletter.  She also has worked hard on coordinating such the District Convention in Pittsburg last fall and the upcoming State Convention in Pittsburg.

Now! I would like to tell you about some exciting new things on the horizon for next year!
